pipeline track - fern tree 15 mins from central hobart
The Pipeline Track is an ideal place to take a walk or ride if you feel the urge to get amongst nature! There's a sidetrack that takes you to Silver Falls if you'd like to enjoy the cascading flow of water here. Starting at the Ferntree Tavern, the hard-packed gravel trail winds it's way up Mount Wellington for a good 12 kilometres. As you climb, you'll enjoy fantastic elevated views and particularly at dusk you'll likely spot some furry natives. Early on, the track is lined with ferns and shady trees, but as you venture higher you'll catch glimpses of Cathedral Rock, the city below and the sprawling coastline. As for coming back down the track, that's the fun part if you're on a bike!

mount field national park
Mt Field National Park is one of Tasmania's most loved national parks and is arguably most famous for it's waterfalls. Russell Falls is simply magic and there are plenty more throughout the park. The park has a wide variety of scenic features and wildlife and offers a great range of facilities for day visitors. Few other national parks in Australia offer such a diversity in vegetation, ranging from tall swamp gum forests and massive tree ferns at the base of the mountain, through rainforest along the Lake Dobson Road, to alpine vegetation at the higher elevations.
