sailing - derwent sailing sqaudron inc. - sandy bay

We are located at Marieville Esplanade, Sandy Bay, an inner city suburb of Hobart Tasmania, on the shores of the Derwent River estuary. The Derwent River is an ideal location for all types of boating activities, particularly yacht racing and has been the venue for National and International events. In addition it is the ideal starting point to explore the hundreds of nautical miles of sheltered waterways of the Derwent River, D’ Entrecasteaux Channel, Fredrick Henry Bay, Wedge Bay and Safety Cove, all of which are within a day’s leisurely cruising from our marina. From Fredrick Henry Bay the magnificent Tasmanian East Coast is accessible via the Dunalley Canal. For the more experienced, the World Class natural wilderness of Port Davey and Bathurst Harbour provides an excellent extended cruise .

sailing - royal yacht club of tasmania - sandy bay

The Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania was founded in Hobart in 1880 and was known then as the Derwent Sailing Boat Club. In 1908, a petition to His Majesty King Edward VII resulted in the granting of a Royal Warrant in 1910 and a change of name to the present name of The Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania. From modest beginnings, the R.Y.C.T. is now one of the leading and largest yacht clubs in Australia. It has a proud tradition of competitiveness on the water and an equally strong tradition of hospitality to all visitors to the beautiful clubhouse on the waterfront and its superb facilities for yachts and their crews.
