The Lotus Centre is a private sanctuary right in the heart of Hobart. It is here that Bija Yoga operates, specialising in yoga therapy and also offering a yoga teacher training program. Holli Gipson grew up in Texas and founded Bija Yoga with partner David Sinn. She has several highly-trained teachers from all over the world and runs some 20 classes a week in the traditions of Ashtanga and Hatha. Bija Yoga is designed to cultivate strength, flexibility, balance and focus while offering deeply-satisfying relaxation. The class begins with several minutes of relaxation before moving into simple moves, many designed specifically around requests during the class and in particular organ health. Holli takes time to consider each person’s needs, having asked at the start of class, and delivers the yoga sequence accordingly. From time to time she’ll stop by to straighten a leg or fix a little finger. After competing as a collegiate basketballer, Holli turned to developing skills in teaching and practising various forms of yoga. As she’s proficient in teaching Hatha yoga, flow, Thai massage, Yin yoga, basic anatomy, Ayurveda, meditation and mantra, one glance at Holli can leave you feeling relaxed. Her skills and knowledge around the fundamental philosophies of yoga run deep. What does Holli do when she’s not in front of a class? She enjoys preparing vegan meals and writes for film and stage, having studied creative writing. Have a chat with her over a sweet little cup of Tasmanian tea – complimentary at the end of each class. VISIT: 45 Victoria Street, Hobart WEB: www.bijayogatas.com |
