In a gorgeous art-deco era bank, CUCKoO is a gallery and shopping experience like no other. It’s run by qualified art historian and curator, Caroline Davies Choi. With a covetable range of local art, artisan products and hand-crafted wares, the range includes paintings, textiles, ceramics, jewellery, woodwork and more. The former bank vault is stocked to the brim with art and craft supplies from near and far, including sumptuous yarns, locally made ink, paint, embroidery kits and inspirational books.
In the designated gallery space, exhibitions are curated on a rotating basis. Painters are paired with printmakers; ceramicists with textiles artists; and diverse group exhibitions showcase a broad range of artists and mediums working to a theme. The exhibitions are always incredibly well received by local, interstate and international visitors alike. CUCKoO also hosts an array of creative classes in their workshop space, Cuckoo’s Nest. From upcycled robot workshops for kids, to knitting, puppetry, sewing and printmaking, there is something for everyone, including those who say 'I'm not creative!' The Nest is a welcoming and inclusive space, a place to warm the soul on a cold winter’s day in the deep south. Now a destination for those visiting the Huon Valley, customers know they will find unique offerings often available nowhere else. Australian-made homewares, wearables, paper goods and an ever-changing array of beautiful gift ideas keep things fresh. There is always something new and exciting to discover at CUCKoO on Cygnet’s main street – just look for the super-sized daffodils out the front. 17 Mary Street, Cygnet cuckootasmania.com.au [email protected] Open from 10.00am daily (closed Tuesday) |
