Esteem Coffee's mission is to uplift and empower Tasmania's diverse local community through a blend of culture, creativity and caffeine.
The team hosts a wonderful mix of colours and cultures, from Eritrean to Colombian, Afghan and Ukrainian. They provide a safe place for people to learn English, upskill as a barista, start a multicultural business, or to serve up their home country’s cuisine at one of their long table community meals, where stories and culture are shared. Esteem is a place where Hobart can meet and celebrate the rest of the world. Exceptional barista-made coffee is prepared and served by Esteem's lovely volunteers. Founder Kelvin helps migrants and people with a refugee background complete a barista course, building their skills and work experience so that they ultimately can get a job and better integrate into society. Various groups meet at Esteem, including an English conversation group, where people chill and chat and learn the language, an employment and training opportunities group, and a Middle Eastern craft group. Anyone interested can contact Kelvin with ideas for other gatherings. 286 Elizabeth Street, North Hobart esteem.coffee [email protected] |
