Bothwell is a special little place just off the Heritage Highway, settled by Scottish farmers in the 1820s. It just happens to be home to the oldest golf course in the Southern Hemisphere, has a fantastic whisky distillery (Nant) and over 50 stone cottages. It's also home to the Australasian Golf Museum with plenty of golfing memorabilia going back a day or two! Play a round of golf at Bothwell and you'll be playing under rules that include what to do if you hit a passing sheep. There are few places that are more entertaining for a game out in the fresh country air! Bothwell is also the gateway to some fine trout fishing, and you'll find luxury country accommodation and stylish cafes in this beautiful historic town.

oatlands - 1 hr from hobart

Oatlands boasts the largest collection of Georgian sandstone buildings in Australia. It's a gorgeous little township about 80 kilometres from Hobart up the Heritage Highway. The quaint town offers cafes, antique stores, restaurants and welcoming accommodation to rest your head. The Callington Mill is a significant landmark for Oatlands (1837) and the town is now home to a state-of-the-art whisky distillery. Surrounded by rich agricultural land, nearby Lake Dulverton is also popular with fishing enthusiasts. At the lake you'll find barbecue facilities, making it a great place to spend an afternoon casting a line and enjoying a bite to eat. ross - approx. 75 mins from hobart

One of the loveliest 19th century villages in the country, Ross has Australia's third oldest bridge and is lined with convict built stone buildings. Pop down to the bridge and you'll see 186 carvings by convict stonemasons that were considered so impressive it was rewarded with free pardon for the men. A visit to Ross is not complete without stepping inside the Ross Bakery, where the wood fired oven has been in operation for over 100 years. The Tasmanian Wool Centre (Ross is well known for beautiful merino wool) and the Ross Female Factory are also highlights of the town.
