BREAM CREEK CELLAR DOOR
While the modern Tasmanian wine industry is relatively young, vines were first planted at Bream Creek in the early 1970s. The original vineyard was purchased by Fred Peacock in 1990, who increased the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay plantings and introduced Sauvignon Blanc and Schönburger, a rare German variety. Fred continued to expand the planted area and the vineyard has been at the forefront of the Tasmanian wine industry for over 30 years. Their pursuit of quality and excellence has seen them awarded 61 wine show trophies and over 1150 wine show medals. In 2023 the long-awaited cellar door opened, offering a range of wine tastings and food. Located only 45 minutes from Hobart, with amazing views overlooking Marion Bay, Maria Island and the Tasman Sea, it is the perfect place to visit on your way to the Tasman Peninsula.

CATHEDRAL ROCK VINEYARD
Established in 2004 with a small block of Pinot Noir vines, Cathedral Rock expanded with their own cuttings and planted Pinot Gris in 2014, plus another block of Pinot Noir in 2016, with three selected clones that were ideally suited to the site. Another block came in 2019, now with a small area of Riesling. They hand produce premium table wine available for tasting and sales at the cellar door. The 1.2-hectare site is ideal for growing cool climate wines. The rocks scattered throughout the vineyard contain ancient Permian era marine fossils, which they believe add something special to the terroir.

COAL VALLEY VINEYARD
Coal Valley Vineyard is a family winery passionate about making small quantities of great wine. Start with their sparkling. It has “the loveliest mousse of silky-soft minuscule bubbles anyone could hope for” (Tom Stevenson, the world authority on Champagne). And what might go well with their wines? Their delightfully crisp dry citrussy Riesling invites the best Tassie oysters. Spring Bay scallops or Rannoch quail are a delicious match with their golden chardonnay. A rack of lamb and a bottle of Coal Valley Vineyard pinot noir and you could stop right there … or you could just squeeze in some of the island’s fabulous cheeses with the TGR (a hint of sweet) Riesling.

HOME HILL WINES
An amazing 30-minute scenic drive down the A6 highway from Hobart you’ll find Home Hill Winery Restaurant; you’ll spot the apple and cherry orchards flanking the sides of the road just prior to reaching Home Hill. A rather secret destination, Home Hill is off the main highway, but foodies and wine lovers who find their way here are delighted by the amazing cuisine and award-winning fine wines on offer. Cellar door tastings are available every day but please check their website for opening hours. Pinot Noir is the core of Home Hill’s business. It’s a grape variety that is difficult to grow and perfecting the wine is equally challenging. Winning the coveted Jimmy Watson trophy in 2015 with their 2014 vintage cemented them as one of the leading wine producers in Australia.
