coal valley vineyard - richmond road
Coal Valley Vineyard is a family winery passionate about making small quantities of great wine. Start with their sparkling. It has “the loveliest mousse of silky-soft minuscule bubbles anyone could hope for” (Tom Stevenson, the world authority on Champagne). And what might go well with their wines? Their delightfully crisp dry citrussy Riesling invites the best Tassie oysters. Spring Bay scallops or Rannoch quail are a delicious match with their golden chardonnay. A rack of lamb and a bottle of Coal Valley Vineyard pinot noir and you could stop right there … or you could just squeeze in some of the island’s fabulous cheeses with the TGR (a hint of sweet) Riesling.

The Late Denis and Margaret Pooley established our small vineyard at Cooinda Vale in 1985. There are now 3 generations of Pooleys involved in the business and the entire vineyard is now under the care and supervision of the manager Matthew Pooley (grandson). Wine making techniques are New World but also incorporate traditional methods with our Reserve range.
