If you enjoy light, fresh, delicious plates and great coffee by the seaside, Marion Storm is your place! The welcoming café spills out onto a sun-splashed deck and lawns ideal for bocce or sitting with your furry friend. Just metres from Bass Strait, this north-west eatery celebrates flavours of a region known Australia wide for its produce. Rich red soils, a cool climate and some of the world’s freshest air are hallmarks of this coast sprinkled with producers from wasabi growers to pink-eye-spud farmers. Marion Storm has a specials board that features whatever beautiful fresh produce they can get their hands on.
Located at Devonport’s Bass Strait Maritime Centre, the space doubles as a great place to share a long seafood lunch and learn about the rich maritime history. Exhibitions and a boat simulator popular with youngsters can be followed up with Valhalla ice creams on the grass. Locals love the all-day menu. Some come for the high tea, others for the delicious in-house cakes, fluffy scones and the famous freshly baked carrot cake. Many pull up road bikes after a pedal and gather in large chatty groups over coffees and sweet rewards. With Ashgrove milk now on tap, Marion Storm is conscious of the environment as much as they’re particular about a menu that supports low food miles and local farmers. Vegan-friendly nourishing bowls are packed with grilled mushrooms, edamame, avocado, pickled veggies and north-west goodness, while the crispy bacon and plump farm-fresh eggs are always popular. Some days you’ll meet owner Claire among the crew. When she’s not enjoying the seaside with her four girls, the charismatic mother is chatting to regulars and whipping up a storm in the kitchen. This laid-back café is all about scenic surrounds and exceptional food. They like to serve up Tassie’s best with minimal intervention between the paddock or ocean and your plate, whether it’s for a sparkling lunch with the girls or a special function. Perhaps an alfresco birthday with a string quartet? A catered picnic by the water? Marion Storm is at the ready – you might just have to beat the lycra-clad locals to a seat!
