Old Kempton Distillery is located in Dysart House, an 1840’s manor house located in the picturesque colonial town of Kempton. It is an easy 40 minute drive from Hobart and approximately 2 hours from Launceston. The Distillery Cellar Door is open to the public from 10am until 4pm every day, it offers the opportunity to relax and unwind in some of the manors charmingly restored rooms. The Cellar Door offers a tastings of all their spirits made on site – Single Malt Whisky, Embezzler Gin (so named because of the “Embezzler” who built Dysart house), Lavender Malt, Barley Vodka and Apple Liqueur. The charming gift shops stocks locally made produce including Whisky Sauces, Gin Jams, Whisky Chocolate and Peanut Butter.
Old Kempton Distillery’s Single Malt Whisky is made in Small Batches only – there are never more than 300 bottles per release. Every Small Batch is unique to Old Kempton Distillery and their Ex Pinot Cask and Ex Port Casks have Won Gold, Silver and Bronze in the World Whisky Awards in the past 3 years. Old Kempton Distillery boasts a modest café with everything house made with Tasmanian produce, the Devonshire Tea with Whisky soaked fruit scones is especially popular. Summer Sessions run from September until March every year – they include live music from local musicians, a special menu, board games and discounted tours/tastings.
