rainy day fun
Let's face it - sometimes in Tassie it likes to rain. That's why we have such bountiful fresh produce envied by the world and plenty of lush countryside. But when it's raining sideways and the wind is whipping up your skirt (or flapping your pants about) then sometimes it's good to have a few 'indoor' plans on hand. Because no how grand our plans might be, at times Tassie has other ideas. Come in summer and you may spot snow...bring all your winter jackets and end up in your bathing suit. Pack some ideas below in your suitcase and you'll be covered for all seasons....usually delivered all in one day.
cascade brewery - south hobart

Intertwine it with some of the brewers' stories and the beautiful 'Woodstock' gardens, before topping it off with a real taste of history - a fresh one directly from the taps. Take the tour and later grab a seat in the restaurant and enjoy a range of gourmet foods prepared by specialist chefs to match perfectly with their brewers pride and joy - Cascade beers.

So you can't miss it. And don't discount it as a rainy day option just because you've been before - it's a constantly evolving and changing beast. As Australia's largest private art collection it's a place that simultaneously challenges, excites, impresses, revolts and will likely leave you wide-eyed for the rest of the day. And that's just what owner David Walsh intends. The museum is open every day apart from Tuesdays, so if it's raining and Tuesday you might need to pick another option!

state cinema - north hobart
If the weather isn't looking so inviting, a great way to wait for the sunshine is to catch a movie at the State. It has entertained generations of Tasmanians for almost 100 years, and we're certain over this time many have taken cover from the elements. But once you're inside the cosy State, you'll realise you're getting more than a movie ticket. You can enjoy a delicious meal, order a glass of wine or coffee to take it into the theatre with you, or pop in next door to the bookshop. The movie selection is always fantastic also, with plenty of art house movies on offer that go perfectly with a bag of State cinema treats. By the time you surface from your plush red chair, more than likely you'll wander out into the foyer and the sun will be out.
