Tucked away on Clifton Estate in Ranelagh is a destination restaurant that effortlessly blends globally influenced cuisine with the regional produce. The finest fresh ingredients, often sourced within the lush Huon Valley, are the heroes of this culinary experience. Housed in a thoughtfully restored oast house, The Kiln Eatery whispers of the past while delivering the latest across a menu that shifts with the seasons. The creative menu crosses cultures and continents, with flavours from the Mediterranean, French provincial, Nepalese and Asian influences.
Pull up a chair to the much-loved Mame Zala concept of ‘small plates’ – perfect for sharing over a slow valley lunch in good company. The relaxed atmosphere is almost palpable within the historic building, first established by ticket-of-leave convict Thomas Jabez Amesbury Frankcomb and expanded by later generations of the Frankcomb family. In the early 1900s, hops were planted along the river and a kiln was built to dry the hops. The Kiln Eatery is testament to this original hop kiln that brought success to the family’s hop farm through World War II. Its agricultural heritage and entrepreneurial spirit lives on today, with a new generation of the Holmes family continuing to make a living from the Clifton Estate. 2 Louisa Street, Ranelagh 0499 511 798 thekilneatery.com.au |
