All ideas start from a conversation; Wide Awake celebrates Elrick and Clare's love for coffee. It's a continuation of what was created a few years back at their original Sandy Bay café, Sash. Today, Wide Awake is nestled in North Hobart and Agent Cooper in Glenorchy. Both are well loved for their great coffee and cheery vibes.

With meticulous planning and management, experience taught them where to begin. Agent Cooper opened its doors a few months before Wide Awake, giving the passionate pair an opportunity to make their creative ideas come alive. They set about making Wide Awake warm and friendly with a stylish interior design, an inviting space that feels like it belongs in the pages of a magazine – and indeed has made its way to more than one! Wide Awake is a place of fun with a twist of personality and good banter.

The jovial team use Padre coffee, who roast their signature blend 'Lucky Boy', with its amazing characteristics and flavour profile. They also turn to other roasters to contribute to their goal of experiencing different types of single origin from various farms around the world. Elrick and Clare are always blown away by the remarkable process and work involved in creating tasty coffee beans.

Both cafés are open seven days a week, with delish pastries from Pigeon Whole Bakers, tasty focaccia from Six Russell Bakery, and lots of small snacks.

The key to making a great cup of coffee is experience, skills, passion and a willingness to learn. Both cafés strive to provide the best service, and well-honed knowledge has led the team to developing great connections with their customers. They come for the happiness and laughs that are served up with their awesome morning coffee. This reputation has been a decade in the making – building a strong community and enjoying many new friendships along the way. They've even inspired others to venture into the café and coffee world.

It's not always smooth sailing running two cafés in Hobart, but Elrick and Clare believe that with the right attitude and correct training, trust can be built and more can be done.
