Just minutes from the township of Cygnet and less than an hour from Hobart, Woodland Bay Retreat feels far from the city bustle. There’s a genuine solitude of nature in these parts that is apparent the moment you set foot on the property. The retreat is thoughtfully appointed and ready for up to eight guests to call home. A welcome basket is filled with local goodies, the country-style kitchen is generously appointed, and an outdoor pizza oven is ready to fire up while you chatter the evening away. Feel like being spoiled? Woodland can organise an in-house chef so that you can get on with unwinding and enjoying good company. There’s a certain elegance to the living spaces, from the more formal sitting area through to the generous dining room that leads out to the wrap-around verandah. The view typically features passing yachts enjoying some of Australia’s finest calm-water cruising. Whether you’re coming as a family, or perhaps for a girls’ weekend away, Woodland Bay Retreat can accommodate your group. There are three large bedrooms, each with a king-size bed; two of these can be split into king-single beds. There are also two foldout single beds. The only challenge will be who gets the master suite! It has an enviable walk-in robe and a luxurious deep-soaking bath. Sink and enjoy the sweeping bay views. Surrounding the home are lush ornamental gardens and more than a hectare of pasture. There’s little to do but sit and breathe in that country air. It’s pleasing to know that the home runs on an environment-conscious solar panel system. Did we mention there’s also an arcade room under the house? For those who enjoy a game or two, the PlayStation and two old-school arcade machines are a novel addition! Wellness area If the homestead itself isn’t reason enough to not leave the property, you should see the dreamy wellness space. With its sauna, hot tub and communal firepit, hours can be lost only a few metres from the back door. The sauna, with its Huum stone heater, enjoys elevated views and can be teamed with a plunge pool for those with a penchant for hot/cold therapy. Stoke up the firepit, hop into the oversized hot tub and let the time glide from twilight into night. For those who like to keep active on holiday, the gym features a rowing machine, stationary bike, yoga mats, exercise balls, resistance bands and a range of weights. It can also be appointed with your own personal trainer on request! At Woodland Bay Retreat you can do as little or as much as you feel like. Nearby there are rolling hills featuring a bounty of vineyards, cideries, fresh produce and roadside stalls. There are bicycles and e-bikes to hire in Cygnet and cruises to join on the Huon River. Venture out or stay wrapped up in the Woodland cocoon, where life feels like it’s on 1930s time.
